Recurve Bow Recurve Bow

A bow was historically used as a weapon. A BOW IS NOT A TOY. As the bow is pulled back or drawn, energy is stored in the limbs of the bow which, when released, create a spring like effect. The string plays the role of transferring all that energy into the arrow. Someone who makes bows is known as a bowyer.

A RECURVE bow is made up of a pair of curved elastic LIMBS, a RISER, or handle, and a STRING.. Pulling the string towards you creates force on the inner section, or belly of the limbs, and puts tension on the outer section, or back of the limbs. When the string is released, the stored energy is transferred to the arrow. The force required to hold the string in the drawn position is known as the power of a bow, and is its draw weight. normally expressed in pounds (lbs).
