Child Protection
It is essential that at all times children are protected, child protection is everybody's legal responsibility. You must ensure that young children are using the correct size and weight bows, so as not to strain their muscles and joints. Ensure that finger tabs and arm guards are used to protect them from injury.
Other things to consider are:
Are the officials at the club your child goes to CRB checked?
Consider any cultural or religious issues.
Do not invade personal space.
Do the safety talk in a language that everyone can understand (short but simple!)
Be aware of any medical issues.
Never work on a one to one basis if the children are not your own.
Do not touch any areas which have no link with archery, keep all touching to minimum and ask in an informal way before touching e.g. "can I just position your arm correctly to make sure you don't hurt yourself with the string"
Never enclose from behind, ensure you can be seen by others all the time.
Do not allow any sexually suggestive language.
Remain professional.
Do not take photos without permission.
Remember abuse can be in the form of neglect, physical, emotional. bullying and sexual.
